Dr. Stone (ドクターストーン Dokutā Sutōn?) is a Japanese manga series written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Boichi, released in Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 6, 2017, with individual chapters collected and released by Shueisha in ten tankōbon volumes up to April 2019. An anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment premiered on July 5, 2019.
The typical Taiju student tells his friend Senku, who loves science, that he is finally about to confess to Yuzuriha, with whom he has been secretly in love for five years. Lying under a camphor tree on the grounds of a school, just as Taiju is about to confess, a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her, but the light suddenly petrifies all mankind, with all humans on Earth turning to stone. Most humans begin to lose their consciousness as all traces of civilization fall, but Taiju remains alive as the year’s progress for his motivation to free himself and Yuzuriha. Eventually, Taiju breaks free from the stone and finds a message carved from the tree that leads him to discover that Senku also escaped the stone, keeping his consciousness alive telling how long he was petrified. Thus, Taiju discovers that the date is now October 5, 5738.
Together, Taiju and Senku begin to rebuild civilization using Senku’s scientific knowledge. They create vitally; a corrosive solvent that destroys the stone coating in person. Initially, they plan to free Yuzuriha, but when the two are attacked by lions who have escaped zoos and have reproduced in Japan over the centuries, they release someone that Taiju recognizes as Tsukasa Shishio, “The Strongest Primate of Teaching Fundamental”. use your strength to kill the lions. Later they do more vital to free Yuzuriha too, but Senku discovers that during Tsukasa’s childhood he was brutally beaten by an adult while he was collecting shells for his sister undergoing surgery; due to the man who believed he had fishing rights for the region, Tsukasa was stealing the shells of the sea. Thus, giving Tsukasa a mentality that only the “people with a pure and young heart” should be revived, and so Tsukasa begins to destroy petrified adults. Thus, two rival clans are formed: the Kingdom of Science of Senku and the Empire of Power of Tsukasa.
