Angry Birds is a series of games developed by Finnish Rovio Entertainment. Inspired by the beginning of sketches of wingless birds, the first game was released for Apple iOS in December 2009. More than 12 million copies were purchased from Apple’s App Store, which spurred the company to redesign versions for other touchscreen mobile smartphones, including Android, Symbian, and Windows Phone operating systems. From there expanded to consoles and PC.
Angry Birds was highly praised for the addictive combination of gameplay, comic style and low price. Its popularity has led to angry birds versions of computers and consoles being created, marketing with their own merchandise with their own characters and even plans for a movie and television series. With a combined 1.7 billion downloads on all platforms including special and standard versions, has already been called to the game “one of the most successful games of the moment”, “one of the great successes of 2010” and “the most successful mobile application of always”.
In August 2015, the company launched ‘Angry Birds 2’, with new characters (silver bird), features (you can choose each bird’s order), a limited number of lives, and the inclusion of more than one scenario in the same phase.
The success of Angry Birds is so great that in 2016, the game released a movie adapted from the environments and characters of the established app. The release of the American movie took place on May 12, 2016. The movie was continued in 2019. The second movie was released on August 2, 2019.
Rovio Entertainment is investigating ways to expand the Angry Birds brand, including creating merchandise, television shows, and movie. In 2011, Rovio acquired an animation studio located in Helsinki to prepare small animated videos for Nicktoons, part of Nickelodeon, one of the first of these videos was a Christmas special called “Wreck the Halls”, which premiered on TV in December 2011.
